Nagaon Highway Parking Ban Faces Compliance Issues in Assam

Guwahati: Heavy commercial vehicles are still parking along National Highway 715 in Assam's Nagaon district, raising questions about the effectiveness of a recent safety directive. Local residents report that multiple trucks have remained stationed near the Kuwaritol Higher Secondary School and the Kaliabor Police Outpost for several days without safety markers or warning signs.

Nagaon District Commissioner issued the prohibition on May 19 to align with Supreme Court instructions aimed at reducing traffic accidents. Under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, the order strictly forbids commercial vehicle parking on highways except in designated areas and mandates legal action against those who fail to comply.

The persistent presence of these vehicles has sparked local frustration regarding enforcement in the Kaliabor subdivision. Authorities have not yet addressed the alleged violations or announced plans to clear the highway stretch.
