Guwahati: The Nagaon district administration is finalizing preparations for a large-scale eviction drive targeting government grazing reserves in the Hatichong Mouza area. Officials intend to reclaim land currently occupied by unauthorized residential structures and artificial ponds that have been excavated within the protected zones.

Assam Cabinet Minister Keshab Mahanta and MLA Rupak Sharma recently toured the proposed sites alongside senior government officials to evaluate the scale of the encroachment. The operation focuses on Government Grazing Reserve No. 72 at Goraimari Pathar, as well as Grazing Reserve Nos. 62 and 63 located at Bogoriguri Pam.

Authorities issued formal notices on July 25, 2025, ordering residents to clear the land. According to the district administration, the occupants failed to adhere to these directives. As a result, officials stated, "the administration is now preparing to proceed with the eviction exercise." Preparations for the operation are underway, and the district government expects to launch the clearance drive in the coming days.
