Nagaland Statistics Directorate Pushes for Better Data Quality

Kohima: The Directorate of Economics and Statistics in Nagaland marked the 20th National Statistics Day on Monday. Officials gathered at the Kohima headquarters to discuss the theme, Unlocking the Potential of Administrative Data. They have a new mission. Staff must now focus on producing reliable, high-quality data to back up state planning.

Director Neidilhou Keditsu pointed to a four-stage process launched by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. This push aims to make datasets interoperable and ready for new technology. The state has already started organizing metadata for its reports, following the National Metadata Structure 2.0. Keditsu pushed his team to stay sharp. He told the staff, "remain committed to producing quality, reliable and timely statistical data to support evidence-based planning and decision-making."

The department also handed out an award during the event. The Wokha District Economics and Statistics Office walked away with the Best Performing District Office title. Judges based the win on the office's work during a special registration drive for births and deaths held in February 2026. National Statistics Day honors the birthday of Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis. He built the foundation for India's modern statistical and economic systems.
