Nagaland Paralympian Hokato Hotozhe Sema Hits World Number One Ranking

Kohima: Subedar Hokato Hotozhe Sema now sits at the top of the World Para Athletics Rankings. The Nagaland native secured the number one spot in the men's shot put F57 category. He serves with the 9 Assam Rifles. This climb marks a major milestone in a career defined by grit.

Sema recently made history as the first Paralympian to receive the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal. He also holds an Arjuna Award. At the Paris Paralympics 2024, he powered his way to a bronze medal. He continues to set the pace for the sport.

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio celebrated the news on social media. "Heartiest congratulations to Subedar H. Hokato Sema, AVSM, on becoming World No. 1 in Men's Shot Put F57 in the latest World Para Athletics Rankings," Rio wrote. The Chief Minister added that the win brings pride to both Nagaland and the country.

India currently owns the top of the leaderboard. Rana Soman and Juyal Shubham follow close behind in second and third place. The sweep proves India is a rising force in para athletics.
