Kohima: Nagaland officials wrapped up a specialized drone mapping course on September 18. The Drone Centre of Excellence ran the training for staff from the Department of Health and Family Welfare. It follows a formal agreement signed back on January 22, 2026. The goal is simple: get drones into the state health system.
Trainees spent time on survey planning, gathering aerial data, and creating maps. They also conducted live field surveys at various health department sites. Dr. Kika Longkumer, the Joint Director for Health and Family Welfare, attended the final ceremony. He toured the drone facilities and watched live demonstrations of medical supply deliveries. The team also showed how drones can spray for vector control.
Officials discussed how to use these machines to fix gaps in rural care. The conversation focused on delivering medicine to isolated spots and tracking disease outbreaks. They also looked at ways to map health infrastructure more efficiently. The department head noted, "Discussions focused on further collaboration and practical deployment of drone technology, GIS and geospatial solutions in healthcare." Both departments plan to keep working together to refine these public health tools.
