Kohima: Enumerators fanned out across Nagaland on July 1 to start the Census 2027 house listing operation. The state-wide drive kicked off at the official residence of Governor Nand Kishore Yadav, known as Lok Bhavan. It will run through July 30. Teams are visiting buildings to log housing conditions, assets, and amenities.

Over 6,000 workers from various government branches are running the show. This includes 17 principal census officers and 130 field trainers. The workforce must visit 1,606 villages to capture the data. Every household faces a 33-question survey. Staff members enter the answers directly into a custom mobile app.

Officials want to keep the process tight. They promised to protect all collected information. A government report noted: "It therefore appealed to citizens, village and ward authorities, and civil society organisations to extend full cooperation to census officials to ensure the successful conduct of an accurate and inclusive Census of India 2027."

This work sets the stage for the next phase. Population enumeration starts in February 2027. That stage will look at migration, fertility, and economic standing. Everything happens digitally to ensure speed and accuracy.
