Kohima: Census officials arrived at the Kohima residence of Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio on July 2, 2026. This visit marked the official start of the House Listing Operations for the 2027 national census. The team went to work immediately.

Deputy Commissioner and Principal Census Officer B. Henok Buchem led the operation. He worked alongside Director of Census Operations Dr. Keneilhoutuolie Miachieo and Charge Officer Seyiekhrietuo Solo. These teams followed strict government procedures to log building details and household amenities.

According to a DIPR report, "The HLO marks the first phase of Census 2027 and involves the collection of information on buildings, houses and household amenities." This data serves as the foundation for the final count. It ensures that the state remains ready for the next stage of the national operation.
