Kohima: The Nagaland Excise Department has launched a preliminary inquiry into reports of alcohol sales during a recent Nagaland Super League exhibition match. Commissioner of Excise H. Atokhe Aye confirmed that the department is currently investigating the incident to determine if state excise laws were violated.
Regarding the ongoing recruitment process for Excise Constables, the department noted that the matter is currently subjudice. The hiring process remains on hold as the department awaits a final verdict from the Guwahati High Court, Kohima Bench, where multiple applicants have challenged specific aspects of the procedure.
The department also addressed a recent incident involving the Angami Youth Organisation, which intercepted a shipment of illegal liquor near Kohima. Officials expressed appreciation for the group's cooperation in handing over the seized goods and the associated vehicle. The items are now in the department's custody, and authorities are working to locate the suspects who fled the scene.
The Excise Department emphasized its commitment to transparency and legal compliance. It urged the public to rely on verified information, stating, "official updates will be communicated through appropriate channels as and when necessary."
