Kohima: Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang wants banks to open their doors to local farmers. He pushed for wider access to institutional credit during the opening of an Axis Bank branch in Jalukie, Peren district, on Wednesday. Farmers need capital. Credit allows them to buy seeds, livestock, and necessary equipment to get the job done.
Zeliang told bank officials to look past the city center. He urged them to reach out to surrounding villages and communities. This move could provide young entrepreneurs with the cash they need to start businesses. It also supports small traders and helps existing outfits grow. The goal is simple: drive economic development and build better financial inclusion across the district.
Axis Bank Dimapur Cluster head Poujaulung said the firm acts as a universal banking institution. They handle retail, corporate, and digital channels. The bank aims to tailor its products to match the specific potential of the region. "The bank remains focused on understanding and meeting customers' needs and improving their banking experience," Poujaulung stated.
Zeliang believes this partnership is just the start. He challenged the bank to dig into the economic potential of the area. They must develop products that fit what local people actually need.
