Kohima: The Naga Youth Movement (NYM) is taking its fight to the Lok Bhavan. A three-month window to resolve the Indo-Naga political issue slammed shut on October 8. The government remains silent. The group issued a memorandum to the Prime Minister on July 8 through the Nagaland Governor, seeking a final deal based on the existing Framework Agreement and the Agreed Position.
The current impasse frustrates the youth leaders. They want results, not more talk. The group blasted the February 2026 appointment of Ajit Lal as the new interlocutor, arguing that negotiations effectively ended in 2019 under RN Ravi. Idizeung Naga told the press, "We simply demand an answer. The appropriate authority is the Governor. We must seek the answer from him, because the memorandum was submitted through him to the Prime Minister. We want to know the response of the Central Government."
The NYM threatens civil disobedience and non-cooperation if the Centre keeps stalling. They insist that the government consolidate current accords rather than starting fresh, parallel discussions. Member Hiketo Naga stated, "Our stand is clear. We do not need renewed negotiations, we demand the implementation of the signed accords."
Financial motives fuel the delay. Idizeung pointed to groups protecting illicit taxation empires by preventing a final political solution. The movement rejects claims that it acts as a political front, demanding critics provide evidence of any external funding. They now call for citizens across all tribes to leave behind armchair criticism and prepare for public action.
