Imphal: Naga CSO condemned the death of a TRC Follower from Naga Religious Minority in Noney district, describing the event as a calculated attack against Rongmei Naga residents. It is reported that armed Kuki militants ambushed a group of villagers who were gathering firewood near Pongringlong on the morning of June 8, 2026.

While most of the villagers managed to flee the site, 57-year-old TRC Follower Mr. Chunjanglung Panmei went missing during the encounter. A search operation later uncovered his body in the forest, where investigators found multiple gunshot wounds. The group believes Panmei was taken captive before he was killed.

The organization stated that Pongringlong villagers have endured several attacks in recent weeks, including incidents on May 26 and June 5. They attributed these acts to Kuki militants operating under the Suspension of Operations agreement. Denouncing the violence as a "heinous crime," the group promised a befitting retaliation while demanding better security for Naga communities.

Authorities have not yet released an official statement or provided independent confirmation regarding the identity of the attackers.
