Imphal: Two rival Naga political factions signed a peace deal Tuesday. The Zeilad Zeliangrong Region of NSCN/GPRN and the Zeliangrong Region of NSCN/GPRN-K (Niki) reached the agreement at Rongdai village in Manipur's Noney district.
The pact aims to mend past divides. It focuses on peaceful coexistence and shared responsibility for the Naga cause. The ceremony drew a massive public crowd. Civil society leaders and clergy watched as representatives exchanged documents.
D.G. Robert of NSCN/GPRN praised the move. He noted the parties chose reconciliation over old grievances. "Despite differences that may have existed in the past, we have chosen the path of reconciliation and mutual respect," Robert said.
The event fell under the Olive Branch Mission. Leaders focused on the theme of strengthening unity among the Zeliangrong people. Salemyang Gangmei emphasized how local solidarity helps the broader Naga nation. Church leaders ended the day with a covenant prayer. Both sides pledged to keep the peace moving forward.
