Imphal: Lok Sabha MP Bimol Akoijam blasted central security forces today for their failure to stop a string of arson attacks in Kanto Sabal. Houses burned while the 57th Mountain Division sat nearby. The MP accused the military of gross negligence and a total lack of concern for the local population.
Akoijam demanded clear institutional accountability for the destruction. He claims the security officers on site treated him with disrespect when he visited the scene. "Even during his visit at spot, the officer not responded well and lacks etiquette," Akoijam told reporters.
The Congress leader rejected the simple narrative of a Kuki versus Meitei ethnic conflict. He insists the disaster stems from massive administrative failure and a lack of coordination between officials. His office is now gathering a full report to present to central leadership in Delhi.
State ruling leaders also took heat for their silence. They have not visited the charred remains of the village. Their refusal to show up keeps the pressure off the central forces, allowing the security breakdown to continue unchecked.
