Monsoon Floods Kill Three as Arunachal Pradesh Remains Stranded

Itanagar: Monsoon rains are battering Arunachal Pradesh. Three people are dead and two remain missing after six days of relentless flash floods and landslides. At least 12 districts face severe disruptions as roads wash away and rivers overflow.

Indian Air Force helicopters pulled four people from an island in the Sisiri River on Monday. The Dambuk area residents were trapped as waters rose. Elsewhere, in Anjaw district, a massive boulder crushed an excavator. Rescuers are still searching for the operator. Officials closed the road until they clear the heavy debris.

East Siang remains on high alert. Landslides choked major travel routes. The Letong Bridge approach collapsed into the river. Near the Ledum area, the river shifted its path, inundating homes and drowning livestock. Twelve families took shelter in a community hall after losing their property to the surge.

In Keyi Panyor district, search teams continue hunting for two victims lost in last week’s flash flood at the NEEPCO colony. Authorities recovered the body of Saurabh Kumar Kharwar on Sunday, bringing the local death toll to three. The storm destroyed 30 homes at the site, displacing dozens of families. Officials noted the scale of the damage, stating that "128 households have been affected" by the weather.

The India Meteorological Department warns of more thunderstorms and heavy rain. Officials urge residents to stay home. Do not travel unless you have to.
