Imphal: Prime Minister Narendra Modi turned his 136th Mann Ki Baat radio address into a showcase for local innovators. He started with Dr. Ronaldo Laishram. A Manipur-born astrophysicist working in Japan, Laishram helped an international research team find a massive cluster of young galaxies. The team named their find the Loktak Proto-Cluster to honor the famous lake in Manipur.
Modi noted the discovery during Sunday's broadcast. "I would like to tell you all about Dr Ronaldo Laishram from Manipur. His name is Ronaldo, but he is an astrophysicist. He works in Japan and was part of the team that discovered a large cluster of young galaxies. They named this entire cluster the Loktak Proto-Cluster, after a beautiful lake in Manipur," the Prime Minister said.
The broadcast covered a sweep of citizen-led work across India. In Sitamarhi, Bihar, locals are turning plastic waste into public benches. It is a win for sustainable resource management. Meanwhile, the Indian Grey Hornbill has returned to the Gir forests in Gujarat. The birds are nesting there again after a sixty-year absence.
Gujarat saw more environmental action in Ahmedabad. Residents planted over 3.5 lakh saplings in the Bhaij area. The entire task took only one hour. Modi cited these stories to track India's progress in science, ecology, and community growth.
