Agartala: The Bharatiya Janata Party has named MLA Abhishek Debaroy as the president of its Tripura Pradesh unit. The appointment, confirmed by National General Secretary Arun Singh and approved by party president Nitin Nabin, takes effect immediately. This leadership change is part of a broader organizational overhaul affecting state units in Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi.

Party leaders expect the 44-year-old lawmaker to bolster the organization ahead of the 2028 Assembly polls, as well as upcoming village and local body elections. Debaroy succeeds Rajib Bhattacharjee, who recently transitioned to a role as a Rajya Sabha member.

Born in 1982 in the Gomati district, Debaroy began his political career in 2001 through student activism with the NSUI and the Youth Congress. He joined the BJP in 2017 and later served as the party president for the Gomati district. In the 2023 Assembly elections, he secured the Matabari constituency seat by defeating Congress candidate Pranajit Roy with a significant majority.

National President Nitin Nabin expressed confidence that Debaroy would drive organizational growth under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Chief Minister Manik Saha and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb also shared their support, noting their belief that Debaroy's grassroots experience and vision will strengthen the party's future in the state.
