Aizawl: Mizoram wants more power in the ginger trade. Commerce and Industries Minister F. Rodingliana met with Union Minister Piyush Goyal and Jitin Prasada in New Delhi to pitch a plan for industrial growth. He requested federal support for massive ginger processing plants and better market access for local farmers.

The state has the output to lead the country. Rodingliana believes Mizoram can become the "Ginger Capital of India" with the right infrastructure for value addition. The minister also wants to move beyond raw exports by building better facilities for the crop.

Bamboo is the next target. Rodingliana asked for help integrating the state's bamboo into the textile and paper sectors to drive up its commercial value. The delegation also requested a new office to support local entrepreneurs. They want a dedicated MSME Development and Facilitation Office opened in Mizoram to give small businesses a fighting chance.
