Aizawl: Mizoram police seized narcotics worth approximately Rs 2.34 crore during two anti-drug operations in the Saitual and Champhai districts. Officials confirmed the dual busts on Wednesday as part of ongoing efforts to intercept illegal substances flowing into the state.

In the first operation, Saitual Police stopped a KIA car near Keifang on Tuesday while it was traveling from Manipur to Aizawl. A search of the vehicle uncovered 71 packets containing 45.871 kilograms of suspected opium fluid. Authorities arrested two Rajasthan natives, 36-year-old Somraj and 28-year-old Kailash, who now face charges under the NDPS Act. Police officials stated that the "recovered opium fluid weighed 45.871 kg and was valued at around Rs 2.29 crore."

A separate seizure occurred on June 8 at the Khankawn Check Gate in Champhai district. Officers inspected a vehicle heading toward Aizawl and detained a passenger, 36-year-old Vanlalnghaka, due to his suspicious behavior. A search of his rucksack revealed two soap cases filled with 29 grams of heroin hidden inside a pair of Reebok shoes. The seized heroin is valued at an estimated Rs 5.8 lakh. The suspect remains in custody as local authorities continue their investigation into the smuggling attempt.
