Aizawl: Mizoram Police seized narcotic substances worth more than Rs 2.34 crore during two separate operations in the Saitual and Champhai districts this week. Authorities confirmed the operations as part of an ongoing initiative to suppress drug trafficking through the state border regions.

The largest seizure occurred Tuesday near Keifang on the outskirts of Aizawl. Police intercepted a vehicle traveling from Manipur and discovered 45.871 kilograms of suspected opium fluid hidden inside. Officers estimated the market value of the haul at Rs 2.29 crore. Two residents of Rajasthan were arrested and charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

A separate incident took place one day earlier in the Champhai district. Officers conducting a routine inspection stopped a vehicle heading toward the state capital and found 29 grams of heroin stashed inside a pair of shoes. Officials valued the heroin at approximately Rs 5.8 lakh. A case has been registered at the Champhai Police Station, where "further investigation is underway" regarding the source and intended destination of the drugs.
