Aizawl: Police in Mizoram seized a large shipment of methamphetamine tablets valued at Rs 19.21 crore in the Saitual district on Monday evening. Authorities intercepted a white car traveling from Manipur toward Aizawl at the Keifang junction around 5:45 pm following reports of potential contraband.
Officers discovered 20 bundles of methamphetamine, totaling 2,02,000 tablets and weighing roughly 24 kilograms. The drugs were stashed in hidden compartments throughout the vehicle, including areas near the spare tire and mudguards, and were wrapped in black plastic packets.
The two occupants of the car, 33-year-old Th Onkhothang Haokip and 46-year-old Mathew, were arrested at the scene. Both men are residents of Manipur. The police have seized both the vehicle and the narcotics, filing charges under the NDPS Act of 1985.
Investigators are now working to identify the origin and final destination of the drugs. While much of the regional drug trade previously flowed through the Champhai district, officials observe that traffickers are increasingly utilizing Manipur as a corridor for moving illegal substances like methamphetamine and heroin.
