Aizawl: The Mizoram government has introduced an online medical referral system to simplify the process for government employees seeking medical treatment outside the state. Health Minister Lalrinpuii inaugurated the digital platform in Aizawl, noting that the initiative aims to modernize healthcare administration and provide faster, technology-driven solutions for patients.
Previously, patients had to physically transport documents to referral boards in Aizawl or Lunglei. The new system replaces this manual process by allowing users to upload necessary medical documentation to the website medicalreferralmizoram.in for a small fee of Rs 20. To support this, the government has established District Screening Committees at all district hospitals to evaluate cases locally. These committees will coordinate with central referral boards via video conferencing to reduce wait times.
While the system offers a pathway for provisional approval, officials noted that patients must still visit the Mizoram State Health Care Society or the Directorate of Hospital and Medical Education for final document verification. The portal was developed by the Directorate of Hospital and Medical Education in partnership with the Mizoram State e-Governance Society. This launch builds on the state's growing digital health infrastructure, which has already seen over 46,000 families register through the broader Mizoram Universal Health Care Scheme.
