Aizawl: Mizoram officials are hunting down fake GST registrations. The state Taxation Department launched an aggressive crackdown this Friday after finding a wave of applications backed by forged paperwork. Investigators discovered numerous suspicious files featuring unverifiable data and addresses where no business actually exists.

Risk-based scrutiny and physical site checks exposed the scam. The department is now hitting these fraudulent actors with the full weight of the Mizoram Goods and Services Tax Act of 2017. Officials want to stop the systemic abuse of tax laws.

The government issued a stern warning to landlords and business owners. Do not hand out your personal identity documents, mobile numbers, or email addresses to strangers. The state warned: "The department also cautioned property owners and business operators against sharing identity documents, residential or commercial addresses, mobile numbers, email IDs or other personal information for GST registration without proper verification."

Authorities hope this drive forces better compliance across the state. They remain on high alert for further red flags.
