Aizawl: Lalenthangi Hnamte, a dedicated health worker from Mizoram, was recently honored with the prestigious National Florence Nightingale Nurses Award. President Droupadi Murmu presented the award during a ceremony in New Delhi on May 12, coinciding with the global observance of International Nurses Day.
Hnamte serves at a Health and Wellness Centre in the Lunglei district, where she has been instrumental in providing essential primary medical care, maternal health support, and preventive services to the local community. Her recognition as one of only 15 recipients from across India this year highlights her exceptional commitment to improving grassroots healthcare in underserved and remote regions.
As part of the national honor, which is considered one of the highest accolades for nursing professionals, Hnamte received a medal, a certificate of merit, and a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh. The award is presented annually to recognize extraordinary devotion to public health.
Mizoram Governor Vijay Kumar Singh extended his congratulations, noting that the achievement serves as a proud moment for the state. He emphasized that Hnamte's selfless service and compassion act as an inspiration for healthcare workers across the region who operate in challenging environments.
