Aizawl: Mizoram Governor General Vijay Kumar Singh presented the Governor’s Unit Citation to the 20th Battalion Assam Rifles on Monday. The award ceremony took place at the Durbar Hall of Lok Bhavan to recognize the unit for its bravery and service.

The Governor credited the battalion for keeping the Indo-Myanmar border secure during a period of instability. He specifically praised their work in stopping narcotics smuggling by coordinating with intelligence agencies. The battalion served in the state from November 2023 to March 2026 while stationed at Lunglawn.

Beyond security, the unit earned praise for its close ties with local residents. The Governor described the force as the "Sentinels of the North East" and "Friends of the Hills" for their active role in health camps, welfare programs, and drug awareness drives. He urged the soldiers to maintain these traditions.

Senior officials attended the event to celebrate the unit. Attendees included Brigadier Puspendar Sorayan, Chief Engineer Krashnendra Singh, and Commandant Colonel Jaswinder Singh. These leaders gathered to mark the unit's success while deployed under the 23 Sector Assam Rifles.
