Guwahati: Assam Minister Rameswar Teli pinned Guwahati's recurring flood nightmare on relentless monsoon showers and heavy water runoff from Meghalaya. City streets remain waterlogged. The government claims local crews are scrambling to clear blocked drains and move the stagnant water out of the city.
"The floods in Guwahati are caused by excessive rainfall. So much rain, and water also comes from nearby states like Meghalaya, causing problems. Our government is working to address this. We want the blocked water to drain, and all the people in our GMC are working to do so," Teli said.
The minister dodged questions about an active police investigation involving stolen donations from a city Ram Mandir. CCTV footage captured the theft. Teli brushed off requests for more details on the scandal. He insisted the administration already set arrangements in place to handle the fallout from the crime.
