Meriema Youth Group to Ban Government Vehicles Over Road Repairs

Kohima: The Meriema Village Youth Organisation plans to bar all government vehicles from its jurisdiction starting July 1, 2026. The move comes after the state government ignored multiple requests to fix the crumbling NH-2 highway passing through the area. Roads are failing. The group finally ran out of patience.

MVYO officials wrote to the Kohima deputy commissioner to explain the blockade. They previously sent formal demands to the PWD chief engineer on March 23 and June 12. Nothing happened. The group stated that despite these repeated appeals, no effective action has been taken till date. The community decided they had no other choice but to force the issue.

Not every vehicle faces the ban. The organization will allow police, paramilitary units, and ambulances to pass. Emergency medical services remain exempt from the restrictions. The MVYO expects the deputy commissioner to cooperate with this plan. They continue to pressure the public works department to start repairs immediately.
