Kohima: The Meluri Town Súmi Community officially joined the Súmi Hoho as a sub-unit on July 8. The induction took place at the Sümi Baptist Church in Meluri Town during the annual Tuluni festival.
Súmi Hoho president Dr. Vihuto Asumi led the ceremony. He pulled back the cover on the plaque to mark the group's entry into the apex tribal organization. The event drew local leaders, including Deputy Commissioner Phuleshe Yeptho and Pochury Hoho president Chonpa Jurry.
Asumi spoke about the significance of Tuluni. He called it a time for thanksgiving and abundance. The festival highlights agricultural success while acting as a bridge for reconciliation and stronger social bonds. He also praised the lasting partnership between the Súmi and Pochury communities.
Integrity served as a core theme for the day. Asumi reminded the crowd that public service and personal conduct matter. He told the attendees, "Integrity is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching."
The celebration wrapped up with traditional songs and dances. It showed a clear spirit of unity between the various tribal groups present.
