Meira Paibi Group Demands Release of Former Arambai Tenggol Members

Imphal: Activists from the Apunba Meira Paibi Lup marched to the Raj Bhavan on Monday. They want the Governor, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, to free former members of the Arambai Tenggol group. The women failed to secure a face-to-face meeting. They left a memorandum instead.

Thokchom Chandrasakhi Devi spoke for the group. She insisted the organization exists only to safeguard Meitei identity. She claims the men surrendered illegal weapons last February under a government deal. That deal supposedly promised immunity from prosecution. "Arambai Tenggol is a socio-cultural organisation formed to protect the identity of the Meitei community," Devi said.

The National Investigation Agency caught three men last week. They grabbed Mutum Naoba, Haorokcham Manaocha, and Kangabam Somanand. The group claims agents skipped basic protocol during the raids. They say no arrest memos were handed over. The women promised to launch a major agitation if the government keeps locking their members up. The streets could get loud soon.
