Shillong: Seventeen-year-old Richbhalang Kharshiing has secured a highly competitive seat in the Computer Science and Engineering programme at IIT Bombay. By achieving an All India Rank of 2626 and an ST Rank of 15 in the JEE Advanced 2026, the Shillong teenager has demonstrated exceptional academic performance.
Admission to the computer science course at IIT Bombay is widely considered one of the most difficult feats in Indian higher education due to the limited number of available spots and intense national competition. Kharshiing’s success is being celebrated as a significant milestone for students in Meghalaya.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma publicly praised the young student for his achievement. In a social media post, the chief minister stated, "Gaining admission to the Computer Science and Engineering programme at IIT Bombay is a significant milestone, given that it remains one of the most sought-after courses among engineering aspirants across the country."
The accomplishment highlights the increasing presence of students from Meghalaya in India's top-tier academic institutions. Officials believe this success will serve as a major inspiration for other local students aiming for careers in science and technology.
