Shillong: Construction of the new Meghalaya Legislative Assembly building in Mawdiangdiang is proceeding as planned. Speaker Thomas A. Sangma confirmed the project remains on schedule following a progress review meeting held on May 20.

The session included Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, representatives from the Public Works Department, and various project consultants. The group evaluated the current state of construction and discussed infrastructure preparations needed to complete the facility.

During the meeting, officials addressed viral social media reports concerning the building's roof structure. The Speaker dismissed the controversy as an exaggeration and described the situation as unfortunate. He encouraged the public to verify information before sharing it online, noting that spreading inaccurate claims can damage the reputation of the legislative institution.
