Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has initiated plans to construct a modern police complex in Rongkhon, located in the West Garo Hills district. This project aims to consolidate police operations and relocate existing facilities out of Tura Bazar. By shifting these services, the government expects to significantly reduce traffic and urban congestion in the heart of Tura.
The move serves a dual purpose by clearing space for community development. Officials intend to use the newly vacated areas in the town center to create pedestrian-friendly zones, public parks, and improved landscaping. This initiative is part of a broader government strategy to transform Tura into a cleaner and more sustainable urban environment that prioritizes public convenience.
During a joint meeting of the Police, Urban Affairs, and Veterinary Departments, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for integrated planning that balances essential infrastructure with environmental health. Representatives from these departments are now finalizing land requirements and planning the phased implementation of the project. The new complex will also provide upgraded administrative facilities, aiming to boost operational efficiency for local law enforcement while enhancing the overall quality of life for town residents.
