Shillong: The government of Meghalaya has entered into a strategic partnership with Wadhwani AI to integrate artificial intelligence into key public services. The State Council of Science, Technology and Environment signed a memorandum of understanding on June 10 to implement new technologies across the agriculture and education sectors.
For the agricultural sector, the initiative focuses on providing farmers with localised advisories and advanced systems for pest and disease surveillance. By improving field level data collection and decision support mechanisms, the state aims to strengthen farming practices and overall productivity. These tools are designed to streamline how support services are delivered to rural communities.
In the education sector, the collaboration will deploy an AI-powered Oral Reading Fluency solution. This tool evaluates student reading performance to help educators pinpoint specific learning gaps. Officials noted that this system provides data-driven insights that allow administrators and teachers to perform timely interventions.
Beyond these immediate projects, the partnership will foster research, capacity building, and knowledge sharing. Officials stated the initiative is intended to promote the responsible use of artificial intelligence and support Meghalaya's development goals. The state plans to eventually explore how these AI solutions can be applied to other public sectors to improve governance and service delivery.
