Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma recently led a high-level review of the state education department to address performance benchmarks and systemic reforms. With approximately 14,600 schools serving nearly 30 lakh residents, the state is prioritizing significant upgrades to its vast educational network.
The government aims to improve learning outcomes, which represent the primary metric in the national Performance Grading Index. To reach this goal, officials are focusing on foundational literacy and numeracy alongside comprehensive teacher support programs. The state is also streamlining data management to track progress more effectively across its school districts.
Infrastructure improvements include the integration of ICT facilities, smart classrooms, libraries, and science laboratories. Schools are also receiving essential upgrades such as solar power installations and improved drinking water systems. To support student wellbeing, the state is expanding mid-day meal services and installing sanitary pad vending machines in schools for girls.
Vocational training remains a key priority, with the government expanding the Community Skill Integrated Curriculum. Chief Minister Sangma has directed Deputy Commissioners to manage these projects in mission mode to ensure timely implementation. He emphasized that these efforts represent a long-term investment in the quality of education for every child in the state.
