Shillong: Meghalaya is moving forward with its preparations to host the 39th National Games in 2027. State Sports Minister Wailadmiki Shylla confirmed that officials expect to sign a revised Memorandum of Understanding with the Union Sports Ministry on May 30. This updated agreement incorporates changes recommended by the Indian Olympic Association.

Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will oversee the signing ceremony in Shillong. The event will coincide with a regional Chintan Shivir, where Union Minister of State for Sports Raksha Nikhil Khadse and other high-ranking sports officials will gather to review progress on the upcoming games.

Inspection teams from the federal sports ministry and the Indian Olympic Association have already visited the state and reported satisfaction with the current preparations. While the state government has already dedicated 600 crore rupees to the event, officials are pursuing additional financial backing from the central government to ensure the Games run smoothly.
