Meghalaya Congress Files Police Complaint Against YouTuber for Defamation

Shillong: The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee filed an FIR at the Sadar Police Station on Thursday against a YouTube channel accused of defaming state Congress president Vincent H. Pala. A delegation of party members, led by legal team chairman Kynpham V. Kharlyngdoh and including Mahila Congress leaders Joplyn Scott Shylla and Marybel Stafford Nongkhlaw, met with East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem to demand an investigation.

The complaint targets the channel Ka Jingshisha and an individual identified as Ronnie Rani. According to the party, the video features derogatory comments directed at Pala, former Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, and senior leader Sanjay Das. The content allegedly claims these individuals are working to undermine the Congress party.

Kharlyngdoh expressed concerns that the content was timed to influence voters. "Such remarks amount to character assassination, especially during the election season when the clear intent is to damage the image of our leaders," he stated. Following the meeting, SP Vivek Syiem assured the delegation that police would examine the claims and proceed according to the law.
