Meghalaya BJP Sets Up Mawlai Committee to Boost Foothold

Shillong: The Meghalaya BJP launched its first full-fledged Mandal Committee in the Mawlai constituency on Friday. This move aims to fix the party's reach in a key political region. The new team consists of 36 members led by Synsharlang Maiong.

Party spokesperson M Kharkrang said the group wants to win local support before chasing election wins. They plan to get government welfare aid directly to poor families. Kharkrang noted that many new members left other parties because of stagnant local progress. "Our objective is to earn the trust of the people first by establishing a strong support base in the constituency before aiming to win the seat," Kharkrang said.

Maiong claimed previous parties failed to get benefits to the right people. He said his team spent time discussing their move before switching sides. The 31-member board of office bearers will serve a term lasting through 2028. The group includes vice-presidents, general secretaries, and executive members.

The induction happened at the state office in Shillong. State president Rikman G Momin attended alongside MLAs Sanbor Shullai and Alexander Laloo Hek. The party now intends to build booth-level committees across Mawlai to continue this push.
