Mawphlang Congress Chief Resigns Party Post

Shillong: George Clarence Sunn quit the Congress party on Tuesday. The Mawphlang Block Congress Committee president handed in his resignation citing personal reasons. He stepped down from all posts, including his secretary role with the East Khasi Hills District Congress Committee.

Sunn is the son of former minister John Anthony Lyngdoh. His departure follows a failed bid for the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council seat in the 2025 elections. He ran on a Congress ticket for the Mawphlang-Diengiei constituency but lost.

In a letter to state president Vincent H Pala, Sunn thanked the leadership for their past support. He wrote, "After careful consideration, I have decided, due to personal reasons, to resign from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress with immediate effect."

The veteran party member expressed appreciation for his time spent with local workers. He said he would value the lessons learned during his tenure. Sunn left the organization effective immediately.
