Mawkyrwat MLA Denies Flooding Claims in Ri-Bhoi District

Shillong: Mawkyrwat MLA Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar rejected claims that his new land caused flooding in Pahamlang village. Residents in 17 Mer, Ri-Bhoi district, blamed the MLA for blocked drainage after heavy rain soaked their homes. The MLA visited the site Monday with Ri-Bhoi officials, PWD staff, and the village headman to address the mess. He insisted no building occurred on the property yet. Tongkhar claimed he spent his own cash to install Hume pipes and improve drainage for the neighbors. "The people of this village know that when I purchased this land, it was an open and level area. In the interest of public welfare, I voluntarily allowed a drainage channel to be constructed through my property, even though it meant a personal loss to me," Tongkhar said. He warned families to stay sharp as more rain could trigger further floods.
