Margherita Residents Mark Muharram With Unified Procession

Guwahati: Devotees filled the Central Margherita Eidgah Maidan on Friday to mark Muharram. The town of Margherita in Assam’s Tinsukia district turned out in force. Residents decorated the grounds before launching a massive Tazia procession that wound its way down National Highway 315.

People from all faiths joined the march. It was a diverse crowd. Men and women of every caste and creed stood together, carrying a clear message of peace. Participants stopped to offer prayers for world unity.

Organisers claimed the event proved the town still holds onto its history of tolerance. As they put it, the celebration "once again showcased Margherita’s tradition of religious tolerance and mutual respect among communities." The march remained peaceful, highlighting the strong bond between local neighbors.
