Imphal: Members of the Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress Committee marched toward the Chief Minister's Secretariat this week to protest the government's response to the state's prolonged civil unrest. During the demonstration, police intervened to stop the crowd from advancing, resulting in the detention of several members including Youth Congress President W. Anand.
The protesters gathered at the secretariat gates to demand the resignation of both the Chief Minister and the Home Minister. They argued that the BJP-led administration has failed to protect civilians, pointing to ongoing violence and disappearances that have persisted for three years. Participants claimed the state government has collapsed and that leaders are prioritizing their own political positions over the safety of the public.
Heavy security surrounded the area during the march. Protesters described their actions as an attempt to awaken leadership they characterized as deaf and dumb to the crisis. They insisted that if officials cannot restore peace and ensure security, they must step down from their posts on moral grounds.
