Manipur Youth Congress Demands Release of Detained Leaders After Protest

Imphal: The Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress is calling for the immediate and unconditional release of its office bearers. Police detained several members, including the organization's president, during a demonstration held on May 23 in front of the Chief Minister's Bungalow.

During a press conference at Congress Bhavan, vice president Thingujam Kiran Singh explained that the protest aimed to highlight the state's prolonged crisis. He argued that the government has failed to provide a permanent solution despite nearly three years of ongoing conflict, which has resulted in widespread displacement, disappearances, and loss of life.

Singh criticized the current administration for its perceived lack of progress in resolving the violence. He pointed out that while several cases have been transferred to the National Investigation Agency, there have been no significant arrests. According to Singh, the government appears more focused on election activities than on restoring peace and protecting the public.

The organization maintains that the protest was a natural response to growing public frustration regarding the handling of the crisis. Party leaders are now pressing authorities to free their colleagues without delay.
