Imphal: The Joint Tribes Council of Manipur condemned the violence at Kanto Sabal village this Saturday. They allege that security forces sat idle while flames tore through several homes owned by members of the Meitei community. The group claims four to six houses were torched in the Kangpokpi district attack.

Witnesses say security forces actively stopped local Naga and Meitei residents from saving neighbors and their property. The council also accused personnel of seizing mobile phones from media members at the scene to block documentation of the carnage.

The organization blasted the security response as a complete failure. They labeled the incident a clear case of "partiality and dereliction of duty" by those tasked with keeping the peace. They warned that public trust in state and central forces is rapidly evaporating.

If officials do not address their demands, the council threatens to stop providing land and resources to security camps. They are ready to reclaim territory currently used by the military. This region has suffered since ethnic clashes erupted in May 2023. The ongoing conflict has already claimed 250 lives and forced 60,000 people from their homes.
