Manipur Traffic Officer Stays Stable After Imphal Knife Attack

Imphal: A traffic police officer is recovering in the hospital after being attacked with a knife while on duty in the Imphal West district on Tuesday. The victim, 46-year-old Salam Tarun, was stationed at Shamu Makhong when an assailant approached from behind and stabbed him.

Emergency responders transported Tarun to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital for urgent care. Officials confirmed that he is currently in stable condition. Following the assault, local law enforcement launched a search operation that led to the arrest of the suspect, 20-year-old Maibam Umakanta. Police recovered the weapon used in the incident at the scene.

Authorities have officially registered a case against the suspect, who is a native of Nongpok Sekmai and was living in a rented home in Wahengbam Leikai. Police stated, "further investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances and motive behind the assault." Officers are now working to piece together the events that led to the unprovoked attack.
