Imphal: Security forces hammered insurgent networks across Manipur this week. Joint teams from the police and central forces dismantled two militant hideouts during a 36-hour sweep. They grabbed a key militant and hauled in a massive stash of weapons and explosives.

Officers nabbed Kangabam Deni Singh in Thoubal district. The 40-year-old is a member of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party-People’s War Group. Police caught him near the Inter Village Road in the Langathel Khongjom area. He was the key that unlocked the next raid.

Interrogation led teams to Wakha Ching in Imphal East. They found two .32 pistols, a pump-action gun, grenades, and mortar bombs buried in the dirt. The inventory of seized gear also included nearly 100 rounds of ammunition and various combat fatigues. A second strike in the foothills of Bishnupur district added an M-16 rifle, a 9 mm pistol, and Pompi bombs to the tally.

The authorities are now digging for leads on the outfit's remaining members. Officials said, "Investigations are underway to identify other members of the banned outfit and trace the source of the recovered weapons and explosives." Surveillance across the region remains tight while investigators comb through the recovered evidence.
