Imphal: Security forces rescued two men held captive in Ukhrul and cleared a massive stash of weapons in Chandel on Saturday. The joint operation followed an alert from the Titabar Police Station in Assam after two locals were snatched to serve as financial collateral.

Troops traced the victims to Changta village. Kasob Kachari and Ajay Gogoi were safely recovered and returned to their families. Police are still hunting the main suspect, noting that the "main accused in the abduction case remains absconding."

Violence persists in the region. In a separate intelligence-led raid near Mombi village, soldiers uncovered a hidden arsenal. The haul included nine single-barrel rifles, two 9mm pistols, two improvised mortars, a hand grenade, and 94 rounds of ammunition.

No arrests were made at the Chandel site. Investigators are now tracing the source of the weapons to determine who planned to use them.
