Imphal: Security forces conducted a series of operations across Manipur on June 1, resulting in the arrest of three alleged militants and two people linked to narcotics trafficking. The Manipur Police confirmed the actions in an effort to curb extortion and illegal drug activities in the region.
In Imphal East district, authorities apprehended two active cadres belonging to the banned Revolutionary People’s Front and People’s Liberation Army. The suspects were identified as 49-year-old Maibam Arun Singh, arrested near a community hall in Top Awang Leikai, and 30-year-old Thangjam Surankumar Singh, captured in Top Makha Leikai. Both men face charges related to extortion.
A separate operation in Imphal West led to the arrest of Bramacharimayum Sana Sharma, a 38-year-old member of the proscribed Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup. Police took him into custody at the District Office Commandant complex in Minuthong.
In an unrelated incident, security forces detained two individuals near the CMC Hospital in Koirengei on drug-related charges. The suspects, identified as 40-year-old VDF personnel Purna Bahadur Karke and 37-year-old Lovingson, were found in possession of 1.425 kilograms of suspected brown sugar. Police also seized a Honda Activa scooter and have launched an investigation into the matter.
