Imphal: Security forces and Manipur Police cornered five suspected insurgents during raids across several districts this week. The operations focused on members of banned groups linked to ongoing unrest in the valley. Police also intercepted a bus in Thoubal and seized 540 grams of heroin. The driver escaped and remains at large.
Officers nabbed Thokchom Bango Singh in Thoubal. He is a self-styled captain for the Revolutionary People’s Front. They seized a 9 mm pistol, 97 rounds of ammunition, and a Toyota Fortuner from the scene. Another RPF associate, Angom Premjit Singh, was pulled from his home in Imphal West. Two additional members of the Kangleipak Communist Party were also taken into custody during separate sweeps.
The authorities are expanding their legal reach. Police took custody of Haobijam Dilip Singh, the chairman of KCP (Taibangnganba), after moving him from Tihar Jail to Manipur. Officials said he was brought to the state "in connection with a pending FIR registered at Singjamei Police Station."
Beyond the arrests, police ramped up local traffic enforcement. The department issued 64 challans and collected over one lakh rupees in fines. Officers also stripped illegal tinted films off eight vehicles during the sweep.
