Manipur Security Forces Arrest Extortionist and Seize Illegal Liquor

Imphal: Manipur security forces arrested an active member of the proscribed UNLF (P) militant group on May 26. Heisnam Jiban Singh, a 51-year-old resident of Thanga Heisnam Leikai, was taken into custody in the Lamlong area. Following his arrest, police searched the Langol area, where they recovered a 9mm pistol, three rounds of ammunition, and 18 weaving machines believed to be property obtained through extortion.

In a separate enforcement action the same day, police detained 26-year-old Moirangthem Tomba Singh and 51-year-old Naorem Bembem Devi in Pallel. Officers confiscated a large cache of alcohol, including 488 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor, 11 bottles of McDowell’s, and nearly 400 litres of locally manufactured DIC liquor.

Authorities have ramped up security measures throughout Manipur to maintain order. Security personnel are conducting consistent search operations and area domination exercises in vulnerable districts. To ensure the safety of supplies, police established 114 checkpoints across hill and valley regions. Additionally, officers provided armed escorts for 269 vehicles transporting essential goods along National Highway 37.
