Imphal: William Maram, a Project Officer in Manipur, received national recognition as the Best Project Officer for Integrated Tribal Development Agencies and District Rural Development Agencies. The honor was bestowed during a national conclave held at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on June 3, 2026.
The Manipur Tribal Affairs and Hills Department nominated Maram for the award, highlighting his tenure within the District Rural Development Agency in Senapati. He was recognized for his role in managing major federal schemes, including the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin, and the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana.
During his time in office, Maram focused on disseminating information about rural employment schemes and handling the issuance of job cards. He also managed public grievances, conducted social audits, and oversaw quality control for infrastructure projects. His work extended to the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan, where he focused on the Maram tribe. The department noted that he "has played an important role in publicizing the scheme to the Maram tribe (PVTGs), which has impacted the tribe and community to a great extent."
Beyond his administrative duties, Maram recently submitted a detailed project report for model ethnic housing clusters aimed at supporting Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups in Manipur. His efforts have reportedly led to a more systemic and efficient workflow within the local development office.
