Manipur Runner Bhumeshwory Devi Grabs Bronze at Asian U23 Championships

Imphal: Manipur runner Bhumeshwory Devi Huidrom took home a bronze medal in the 800m event at the Asian U23 Athletics Championships in Ordos, China. The 22-year-old athlete clocked a time of 2:10.20 to finish third. It was a tight finish. She beat China's Gejing Zhu by just 0.03 seconds.

Uzbekistan runner Jonbibi Hukmova grabbed gold with a 2:08.41 finish, and Japan's Kurumi Sugure took silver in 2:09.42. This podium finish marks a breakout moment for the runner from Huidrom Awang Leikai.

Former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh praised the result on social media. "Heartiest congratulations to our talented Manipuri athlete Bhumeshwory Devi for winning a Bronze Medal in the Women's 800m event at the Asian U23 Athletics Championships 2026 in Ordos, China," Singh wrote. He noted that her performance serves as a proud moment for both the state and the nation.
